HEMITITE, Fe2O3 - Iron Oxide. From the Greek word Haima meaning "blood". A thick,shiny Hematite crystal with the underside of the matrix and crystal coated with tiny red Andradite garnet crystals covering half the specimen. Specimen is 3.5 cm (1-3/8") wide by 4.5 cm (1-3/8") deep by 2.5 cm (1") high.A fine specimen from Wessels Mine, Kuruman, Kalamare Dept.,Cape Provence, South Africa.This specimen has a unque mixture only known from this mine.
